Mechanical Engineer
- Austin, TX
- Full-time, in-person
- $120K-$180K + equity
About Us
Inspection bottlenecks production. If you want to make more parts you need to measure more parts. Most machine shops work around the inspection bottleneck by inspecting fewer parts - often one in ten. We are using X-ray and computed tomography to help manufacturers inspect parts faster with less specialized labor.
We are a small team of dedicated engineers based in Austin, Texas. We care about the entire lifecycle of the product: prototyping, manufacturing, maintaining.
Responsibilities
You'll design, build, test, and fix the machine, including the enclosure and the mechanical systems around the CT hardware.
- Design and build the shielded X-ray cabinet: lead-lined panels and doors, and frames that keep it safe and compliant
- Design the mechanical systems inside the scanner: part stages, motion, mounts, and fixtures
- Make parts yourself on the mill, laser cutter, waterjet, and other shop tools
- Take a design from CAD to a working machine on the floor, then fix whatever breaks
- Help set up the shop and its tools
This isn't a comfortable, narrowly defined engineering job. You'll work hard, solve problems you haven't seen before, and directly affect whether the product succeeds.
What we're looking for

- You build things, not just design them. Show us things you've actually shipped.
- Comfortable running a Bridgeport, a laser cutter, and general shop equipment
- Allergic to bureaucracy
- You think from first principles, move fast, and see problems through to a working result
- You can work without much direction and crave terrifying levels of ownership
- You are authorized to work in the U.S.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with CMM, manual inspection, and general metrology
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication
- Experience with radiation shielding or X-ray cabinets
